Raphael Marcilli
Polymer Chemistry Scientist - Wageningen University and Research
Raphael is a polymer synthetic scientist focused on the science of materials, specifically in monomers, synthesis, and modification of polymers. His main research area includes biocompatible materials, colloidal chemistry, especially in self-assembled systems, photonic stacking materials and liquid-liquid, polymer-polymer compatibility, high refractive index nanoparticles synthesis and surface modification and mechanical/optical/stimuli-responsive properties in crosslinked hydrogels (compression, rheology, water swelling, stimuli controlled releasing and optical properties modification). His hard skills include monomers synthesis and modification, renewable sources monomers, copolymerization strategies, molar mass and dispersity control, mechanical and structural characterization of the macromolecules context and polymers solutions, applied to colloidal chemistry and engineering polymers. He has coordinated a project in the development of fine-tuning control in vitrimers and dynamic covalent bounded thermosets, mostly focused on polyesters and polyamide-based materials. Finally, his experience in polymer science extends to characterization and processing, since the structural level (GPC, NMR, SEM, TEM, SAXS, DLS, SLS, DRX), thermal analysis such: DSC, TGA, DMA (DMTA), Rotary Rheology for gels and liquids, capillary rheology in the context of extrusion parameters for injection molds and yarns spinning.
