Maurizio Pesce

Department of Cell Biology, King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre

Dr. Pesce has a specific interest in addressing the mechanosensing ability of cells that are crucial to induce pathologic processes of the cardiovascular system such as valve stenosis, vein graft disease and myocardial fibrosis. The research of the group is performed using cell/tissue engineering systems, which enable to expose primary cells amplified directly from human surgical specimens, to static (differential stiffness gels, micropatterned surfaces, micropillars) and dynamic (cyclic elongation, coronary flow patterns) forces. Dr. Pesce has also expert in stem cells, regenerative medicine and bioengineering. Dr. Pesce is a Nucleus Member and was recently elected as a Chair elect of the Working Group (WG) on Cellular Biology of the Heart of the European Society of Cardiology. He will act as a chair of the WG in the period 2024-2026.
Dr. Pesce has helped as an expert reviewer for >30 international- high IF - Journals, is a member of the editorial board in 5, and has been involved in assessment of EU funded grants like EU-Horizon, Eurostars, Cost-Actions and ERA-NET.
