Expertise: Gloria Garoffolo’s studies are focusing on assessment of intracellular transmission of mechanical forces to address tissue pathology and regeneration. In particular, using an interdisciplinary approach that integrates classical paracrine pathways with cellular biophysics, studies of the group have helped to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the mechano-dependent pathological activation of progenitor cells present in the heart, in the aortic valve and in the vessels.
Role in the consortium: CCM will be in charge of validating NPs uptake in inflammatory and cardiac fibroblast cells (WP1) and the efficacy of NPs in 3D model of cardiac fibrosis (WP2). CCM will participate to in vivo experiments of WP4.
